“Bryant & Eric did a great job in moving everything. process was super fast and smooth. All furniture was moved safely and cleanly. recommend to anyone looking to move in the area!”
I’m Wes Kuhlman, and I started Nu Day Moving in 2015. I’m Champaign-born, and my U of I years were spent lugging dorm loads and Campustown apartments in and out every August. Watching families eat surprise after surprise on an open hourly meter is what pushed me to do the opposite: I hand you a flat number on paper, then my crew starts lifting.
Sizing the crew to your place
Small jobs stay small. A studio off Green Street or two downtown rooms goes fast with two movers. Add a full house by Carle, a genuine stairwell, or a Tolono farmhouse and I put a third mover on it so we wrap before the light fades. Brant Eiler chiefs the tight-stairwell runs.
| Crew | Rate | Right for |
|---|---|---|
| 2 movers + truck | $135/hr | Studios, 1BR, small Campustown units |
| 3 movers + truck | $185/hr | Houses, stairs, 3BR and up |
We hold to a one-hour minimum and bill straight time after. Pads, dollies, and shrink-wrap are baked into that hourly figure, and booking a Saturday never costs a dollar more than a Tuesday.
Where the flat rates usually land
To keep you off the guessing wheel, here’s the territory our written flat rates cover once Paige has walked through your address and access:
| The move | Written flat rate |
|---|---|
| Campustown high-rise studio or 1BR | $430 – $585 |
| 2BR single-level, easy load | $670 – $915 |
| 3BR downtown walk-up, tight stairs | $1,010 – $1,385 |
| 4BR home in Savoy or Mahomet | $1,490 – $2,010 |
| Extra stop at a storage unit | +$110 – $180 flat |
The neighborhoods and gravel routes we’ve learned
Downtown Champaign and the Urbana blocks near campus are packed with old brick walk-ups whose staircases were never sized for a couch, Lincoln Square anchoring the middle. Swing the other way and you’re on gravel drives in Sidney, Philo, and St. Joseph, where the porch sits a good haul from wherever the truck can park.
We map out the awkward stretch of every job the day before, so no one is figuring it out live in your hallway. In Champaign County that usually covers:
- Campustown and Green Street high-rises with shared elevators and posted loading limits
- Historic downtown and Lincoln Square walk-ups with narrow, turning staircases
- Newer Savoy and Mahomet subdivisions with garages and wide driveways
- Farmhouses and acreage in Tolono, Sidney, Philo, and St. Joseph off long gravel drives
Scheduled around prairie weather
Wind rips ice straight across open ground here, so from December through February the trucks ride with ice-melt and traction mats aboard. Come spring the tornado watches roll in, and when the sirens are a genuine threat we phone you to reschedule instead of tarping a dresser in a cloudburst. Want a figure now? The moving calculator spits one out in about a minute, and the home page introduces the crew. Headed across a state line? Read long-distance moving. Handing back a leased unit? Our apartment & condo team squares away the COI.
