Are you a moving company?
Yes — Nu Day Moving is a fully licensed and insured Champaign, IL moving company running our own trucks and uniformed crew, with an Illinois Commerce Commission household-goods license and US DOT and MC authority.
What does a local move actually cost with your crew?
A two-mover crew with a truck is a flat $135 an hour, and stepping up to three movers with a truck runs $185 an hour, each with a one-hour minimum. Blankets, dollies, and shrink-wrap are included, and we put the flat number in writing before anything gets loaded.
Is the figure you quote the figure I actually pay?
It is. We size the job first, then write down a binding flat rate you sign off on before we load. Unless you add items to the move, the number on booking day is exactly what you pay — no hourly creep.
Can you handle a move during the U of I August or May rush?
That's our busiest stretch, and we staff up for it. Marcus Tiller specializes in Campustown and dorm turnovers, so we book early, time the Green Street freight-elevator windows, and work the compressed move dates that come with a campus of 56,000 students changing addresses at once.
How do you move furniture out of a tight downtown brick walk-up?
Brant Eiler leads our downtown and near-campus jobs and scouts the stairwell and truck-staging spot before move day. On the older Champaign and Urbana brick buildings we line up curbside parking too, so the crew isn't circling the block with your couch.
Do you take moves to other states?
We do. Our US DOT and MC authority covers interstate moves down the I-57 and I-74 corridors and beyond — Deshawn Prather even runs the long haul south to Pensacola and other snowbird spots — and the crew that loads you in Champaign is the crew that carries it to your new place.
How do winter cold and spring tornado season change my move date?
December through February our crews carry ice-melt and traction mats for frozen steps and the wind that rips across the open prairie. During spring severe-weather weeks we reschedule around active tornado warnings instead of running a crew through it, and we tarp fast for sudden downpours.
What protects my belongings while they're on the truck?
Every move includes released-value protection at $0.60 per pound at no cost. Want the belt-and-suspenders option? Full-value coverage is available and carries up to $1,000,000 of cargo protection on a shipment.
Will a completely different crew show up to unload?
For an in-town move, the crew that hauls everything out first thing is the same crew unloading you at the new place later — nobody gets swapped in partway through the day.
Can your crew pack the whole house for me?
Yes. Our full-pack crew comes the day before load day and wraps it all — dishes, mirrors, closets, the lot — so move day itself is nothing but loading and driving.
